The 3rd Symposium on Archaeometry held in Bucharest, Romania, October 29th-31st 2008
The Romanian National History Museum announce the organisation of the international symposium Ancient and medieval gold, silver and bronze - Technologies in minting and toreutics used during Antiquity and Middle Age - The Contribution of the Atomic and Nuclear Analyses, as a part of the ROMARCHAEOMET program, financed by the Romanian Ministry of the Education and Research. The symposium is intended to be a stimulus for the development of numismatic and archaeometrical researches in Romania and the neighbouring countries. The local organising committee will be pleased to meet a large number of colleagues working on similar topics in Bucharest.
The symposium intends to present the general progress made during the last years in the studies regarding the ancient and medieval coinage, as well as on the technologies of the gold, silver and bronze used during the Prehistory, Antiquity and Middle Age, thanks to the atomic and nuclear analyses, as well as the most recent developments in the metrological studies in numismatics. The symposium will focus mainly on the ancient and medieval monetary technologies, as well as those used by the gold-, silver- and coppersmiths in South-Eastern and Central Europe, in a broader European and Mediterranean context.
